Dr. Martens Footwear: Safety in Style

Perhaps the most iconic brand of footwear ever created, Dr. Martens boots are nothing less than legendary. Over the decades, they have been a must-have fashion item for skinheads, mods, punks, goths and new wavers but there is one group of people that have stuck faithfully with the brand throughout these ever-changing social styles: the workers.

Whether you call them Dr. Martens, Doc Martens or even just Docs, boots made by the globally-recognised brand are known for their consistent, reliable quality. It is this combined guarantee of genius design, superlative materials and flawless manufacturing techniques that has ensured Dr. Martens have been a fixture on the hard-working feet of millions of workers since they were first introduced to the world by Klaus Märtens in 1947.

A doctor in the German Army during World War II, Märtens ironically injured his ankle whilst skiing in the Alps during a period of official leave. Quickly discovering that his standard-issue army boots were woefully inadequate to the task of providing comfort to the injured limb, he promptly acquired some pieces of scrap leather and made a pair of his own.

The most striking feature of this, the first ever pair of Dr. Martens Boots, was that they incorporated the air-cushioned soles that remain a classic feature of the boots made by the brand to this day. With old university friend Herbert Funck and using discarded rubber from Luftwaffe airfields, Märtens went into production with his new design and the rest is history.

As the historic brand boasts such a rich heritage and an unblemished reputation stretching back more than 70 years, it's no wonder that we here at Tiger Safety are proud to stock an extensive range of 30+ styles of Dr. Martens footwear.
