Face Masks to Become Mandatory

From Friday 24th July, in a concerted effort to help control the spread of COVID-19, wearing a face covering will be mandatory in shops and supermarkets throughout the country. Matt Hancock, the Health Secretary, said the new ruling will "give people more confidence to shop safely and enhance protection for those who work in shops".

Wearing a mask or other face-covering on public transport  has been compulsory since 15th June. Extending the ruling to include shops brings UK into line with other European countries including Germany, Italy and Spain. Anyone failing to comply with the new legislation will face an immediate, on-the-spot fine of up to £100.
